How to pack away your Christmas garland

By West Lancashire Creations · Updated 25 October 2026

Take a quick record

A photograph of your finished arrangement and a note of the length can save time next year. Record where each section went and keep any clips or approved fixings with the corresponding garland. Do not include private information in labels that may be visible outside your home.

Remove the extras first

Take off loose ornaments, ribbons and removable accessories before lifting the greenery down. Keep fragile decorations separate. Disconnect power and follow the manufacturer’s steps for the lighting, including battery removal where instructed.

Pack without crushing

Use the original box or a container suited to the garland’s dimensions. Avoid sharp folds in wired sections and do not place heavy boxes on delicate foliage. Store it dry and according to the material and lighting instructions rather than assuming every loft or shed is suitable.

Inspect before the next season

Check fixings, foliage and lighting for damage before putting everything back up. Test powered decorations according to their instructions before arranging them. Recheck the fit if furniture, sockets or the intended location have changed; last year’s measurements are a starting point, not a guarantee.
