Pre-lit or unlit garland: which suits your home?

By West Lancashire Creations · Updated 25 October 2026

What pre-lit does well

Integrated lights can make the initial arrangement simpler, with spacing already planned along the greenery. Check the light colour, power source, lead length and whether a timer is included on the specific model. A product photograph alone is not enough to establish those details.

What unlit does well

Unlit greenery lets you keep the look simple or choose separate compatible lights. It can also make it easier to change your colour scheme between years. Account for the cost and storage of any extra lighting before comparing it with a pre-lit option.

Think about repairs and storage

Ask whether bulbs or the lighting system are replaceable and what the supplier recommends if lights fail. Avoid tightly bending wired sections or storing the garland under heavy objects. Follow the instructions for batteries and for packing away powered decorations.

Choose the location first

For a mantel near a socket, a mains option may be practical if the lead reaches safely. For an isolated shelf, battery power may be more convenient. Outdoors, verify the complete set is suitable. The right choice follows the installation you can actually make, not simply the most attractive photograph.
