Battery or mains-powered garland?

By West Lancashire Creations · Updated 25 October 2026

Draw the route to power

Locate a suitable socket before buying a mains-powered garland. Compare the distance with the manufacturer’s lead length, allowing for the way the cable will be routed. Keep cables out of doorways and walking routes rather than stretching them to reach.

Battery power needs access too

A battery pack removes the requirement to reach a socket, but it must still be accessible for changing batteries or operating controls. Check the number and type of batteries and whether they are included. A timer can be useful if it is actually listed for the model.

Do not guess running time

Battery life depends on the particular lights, batteries, settings and conditions. Use the manufacturer’s stated information rather than assuming every LED garland will last a whole season. Store spare batteries safely and follow the product instructions.

Read the installation details

A mains transformer may need a different environment from the light string it powers. For either option, use only the specified power supply and intended location. Do not join, alter or extend electrical parts unless the manufacturer permits it. A clear cable plan is part of the decoration, not an afterthought.
